The Opportunity

Reporting to the Print Manager, the role will focus on providing a high level of technical expertise and leadership within all areas of Print Production. The successful applicant will have significant experience within a Lithographic Print Department, ideally within a Packaging environment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with the Print and Planning Managers to obtain “work to lists” for all machines within the department to ensure jobs are completed in accordance with production schedules.
  • In conjunction with the Print Manager ensure that all the machinery within areas of responsibility is maintained to an effective level, and any necessary repairs are completed quickly and in-line with production requirements
  • Responsible for approval of any internal/customer pass on press requirements
  • Collation of all materials/consumables/components/services necessary for the print production process on both a departmental and job by job basis
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal departments to ensure any necessary materials/consumables/parts are ordered and in stock as required, liaising with the Technical Order Processing team to obtain official Purchase Order(s) as required
  • Advise the Technical Order Processing Dept of any necessary engineer call outs/required parts/consumables so that official Purchase Orders can be raised
  • Liaise with the Print and Planning Manager`s in relation to production issues and any subsequent impact to the production schedule
  • Monitor staff attendance and effectiveness across the shift patterns and provide feedback and information to the Print Manager as appropriate
  • Liaise with and order directly from Ink Suppliers to ensure sufficient levels of Inks and Varnish are available to produce planned work
  • Ensure all staff are using provided machinery and IT systems in the correct method and in conjunction with the Print Manager monitor data input for accuracy
  • Communicate any production requirements/instructions provided by the Print Manager to both individual staff members and print team leaders as necessary
  • In conjunction with the Print Manager you will deal with day to day staffing issues as appropriate, inclusive of disciplinary issues in line with company policy
  • Ensuring that all staff members within areas of responsibility are adhering to company policies and procedures
  • Assess production on a daily basis and investigate and advise the Print Manager of any potential areas of improvement using all available IT tools and systems
  • Working closely with other departmental supervisors or managers to ensure smooth operation of the plant
  • Attend all meetings deemed necessary by the Print Manager or Senior Management Team
  • Provide Print Operator cover in periods of absence or as required
  • Responsible for ensuring holiday leave quotas are adhered to, whilst arranging overtime, (inclusive of holiday cover) in liaison with business requirements and the Print Manager
  • To identify and communicate any production Non-Conformances to the Print Manager, or a member of the QA team, and implement any corrective action as agreed
  • Working closely with other departmental team leaders, supervisors or managers to ensure smooth operation of the plant
  • Provide cover for the Print Manager and associated duties during periods of absence
  • Working closely with other departmental managers and company directors to ensure the business goals, objectives and targets are worked towards and achieved

Skills and Attributes:

  • Being able to work both within a team and as an individual
  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and work under strict timescales both individually and within the finishing departments
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Ability and willingness to share knowledge and skills with other members of the team
  • Previous supervisory experience is advantageous but not essential
  • Confident and enthusiastic with a desire to learn and develop through continuous training
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and organisational skills
  • Willingness and ability to communicate company directives to the team in a positive, concise and effective manner
  • Previous experience of machine operation within the relevant field
  • Experience of working within packaging/greeting cards sector would be advantageous
  • IT literate
  • Organised, methodical and logical approach to work
  • Good understanding of operational efficiencies and KPIs
  • Able to show a high degree of initiative and flexibility
  • Assist in the provision of cover when the Print Manager is absent

Working Hours:

Monday – Friday 40 hours per week. Shift times TBC
